Arigna Mining Experience

Step back in time at the Arigna Mining Experience , Ireland’s first coal mining museum where history is brought to life as you learn the story of Ireland’s coal mining industry and explore themes of energy – past, present and future.

Visit the exhibition area with fascinating documents, photographs and mining equipment on display tracing 400 years of mining history.

Take a guided tour underground with a former coal miner , giving detailed accounts of Arigna’s history as a coal and iron mine.

Arigna is also the starting point of the Miner’s Way and Historical Trail, a 118km long network of paths through Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo. You can hike a short section of the route on your visit to the mines.
