Foynes Flying Boat Museum
Foynes Flying Boat Museum tells the wonderfully unique story of how Foynes became one of the worlds greatest aviation hubs during the years of 1937 through to 1945 when it was used as the landing place for Pan Am clippers from the United States and Europe.
The museum is home to the worlds only full scale replica of the Boeing 314 “Yankee Clipper”, which landed at Foynes on July 9th 1939, becoming the first commercial passenger flight on a direct route from the USA to Europe to land here.
Foynes is also the home of the world famous Irish coffee! Chef Joe Sheridan invented it in 1942 to warm up some damp and disgruntled passengers and it has gone on to become one of the most welcoming drinks in the world.
