Located in the heart of The Burren, County Clare. Forty minutes from Galway and Shannon. Perched high on its Burren terraced hillside with what has to be one of the most spectacular views of Galway Bay. Aillwee Burren Experience is a must visit for all who find themselves in The Burren.

Let the team at AILLWEE CAVE welcome you to the dramatic underworld of this area. Expert guides will accompany and inform you during your leisurely tour. The tour consists of a 45-minute stroll through the beautiful caverns – over bridged chasms, under weird formations and alongside the thunderous waterfall which sometimes gently sprays the unsuspecting visitor! Marvel at the frozen waterfall and learn about the now extinct brown bears’ bones (ursos arctos).

The guides will bring you back to the overground world where you can browse and shop in a distinctly different gift shop which is housed in the award-winning complex that guards the entrance to the Burren underground.

Tours depart regularly, all you need to do is present your prebooked admission to the team on arrival and they will look after you.

TIP: We say to keep aside an hour total for check-in and Guided Tour of the Cave.

BIRDS OF PREY CENTRE

Since 2008 THE BIRDS OF PREY CENTRE @ AILLWEE has been educating and entertaining visitors with dynamic flying displays set against the dramatic Burren Landscape.

Witness some of Ireland’s and the world’s top predators at the Birds of Prey Centre. Eagles, Owls, Vultures and Hawks all reside at Aillwee. See the raptor collection in their aviaries and in free flight every day during scheduled flying displays. The mission of the Centre is to aid the conservation of Birds of Prey through visitor awareness and education, whilst actively fundraising for Raptor conservation monitoring efforts within Ireland and worldwide.

Witness the Resident Raptors in free flight during daily scheduled Flying Displays. The demonstrations are 45 minutes long.

TIP: Don’t forget to keep time aside to say hello to all the raptors in the Centre. A duration of at least 1 hour is advised.

The Farmshop

The Farmshop is truly a hidden gem at Aillwee Burren Experience. Here, you will watch traditional, sustainable farmhouse methods used in creating their award winning Burren Gold Cheese.

It’s a farm to fork story that tells of community and neighbours working solidly together. Taste several varieties of Burren Gold Cheese while browsing many artisan food products from their local producers and partners.

For those with a sweet tooth, they also make creamy, buttery fudge too where sampling, of course, is encouraged.
