The quiet roads of Bere Island are ideal for cycling, whether you want some leisurely exploration, or a more challenging climb of the hillside tracks. Bicycle hire is available on the island. Golf is available at the nearby Berehaven Golf Course, you can get the ferry from the island and walk straight onto the course! This is a 9 hole golf course with 3 holes played across the sea! Nature lovers will enjoy the peaceful, unspoilt landscape, part of Bere Island is a protected area for some birds such as Choughs.
At Bere Island Holiday Homes, they produce their own honey from the abundance of local wildflowers and plant life, and they also have their own small flock of purebred Kerryhill Sheep. Guests can take part in caring for the sheep, enjoy lambing time, and even try their hand at shearing!
The island is served by two car ferry services. Murphy’s Ferry runs from Lawrence Cove on the island to ‘The Pontoon’. 3 miles east of Castletownbere. Bere Island Ferries run from the island to Castletownbere.
