Wild West Boat Tours

Wild West Boat Tours is a family run business with over 30 years experience operating charter boats from their home port of Blacksod Bay, in county Mayo. They offer daily trips to the beautiful Inishkea Islands and the Croaghaun sea cliffs of Achill island.

The Inishkea islands are located around 3km off Mayo’s coast, yet are miles off any mainstream tourist maps. They are probably Ireland’s least visited islands yet are packed with adventure and stunning natural beauty. There are golden beaches and fantastic walks with views back towards the mainland and Achill island. Inishkea South is home to an old whaling station that dates from the early 20th century and some artefacts can still be seen there.

The most striking thing about these islands is their abandoned villages – houses, schools, and even pubs, that were left almost a century ago after a devastating mass drowning of young fishermen meant many islanders couldnt sustain their livelihoods. The islands are a true time capsule of history and culture.

The Croughaun Cliff Tour takes you on an adventure from Dugort Pier on Achill island, along the rugged coast past Sliabhmor, the seal caves, Annagh beach, Annagh head, and finally the Croughaun cliffs. The cliffs are the 3rd highest cliffs in Europe. On the odd occasion where it is too rough to travel to the cliffs, they can take you to see the historic village of Blacksod instead and visit Blacksod lighthouse for a tour if you wish. Wild West Boat Tours also offer sea angling trips where you can spend two hours fishing the pristine waters of Blacksod Bay. Rods and reels are provided.

Their skippers have a wealth of local knowledge, whether it’s for finding good fishing grounds or giving insights into local history, they provide an amazing passenger experience to all who travel with them.
